Southern Co., the dinosaur of the utility world, has now declared new coal plants a dead end due to competitive prices of natural gas. The April 18, 2011 Energy & Coal Price Report reports that Southern Company (parent company of Georgia Power) told the North Carolina Coal Institute spring meeting it has no plans to build any new coal plants.

Could this be integral in repairing urban sprawl? While living in urban sprawl a major issue I have noticed is the inability to walk or bike along some roadways. The shops and amenities of my town are not too far away, they just lack sufficient (and/or safe) pedestrian/bike access.

ECOVIE (pronounced ‘eco-vee’) Rainwater Collection Systems (www.ecovieenvironmental.com), the Atlanta-based rainwater management company, is teaming up with the Atlanta Braves and Turner Field to capture, use and manage water for the 2011 baseball season.
